A Short History of The Cathedral League

Motto: Love and Service

Through inspiration from the Almighty God, some members of the Church who have been nursing the idea of forming a new Society in the Church decided to bring into reality that dream. These men, notably Bro. K. O. Olomo, Bro. S. ‘Geshin Morafa and Bro. R. ‘Kayode Shoderu, through consultation with one another, suggested names of those they thought would be of like mind and thus got the 1st assemblage of Ten Members:

  1. Bro. K. O. Olomo
  2. Bro. (Chief) ‘Kayode Shoderu
  3. Bro. S. ‘Geshin Morafa
  4. Bro. ‘Shina Soyebo
  5. Bro. (Chief) Dele Kuti
  6. Bro. Ladimeji Oshinowo
  7. Bro. Ladi Sowemimo
  8. Bro. Taiwo Kara
  9. Bro. David Sunmoni
  10. Bro. (Dr.) Ayo Ajayi

who were invited to the 1st meeting of the Group on 19th March, 1995. During a subsequent meeting early in April, 1995 vital decisions, including the adoption of a name, were taken. And through a letter written on the 5th of April, 1995 the Leaders Meeting of the Church was informed of the formation of the Society under the name of THE CATHEDRAL LEAGUE. Thus, the ‘baby’ whose formal ‘Christening’ is being performed today was born on 23rd April, 1995.

Today, officers and members of the League, whose main objective, among others, is the development, upliftment and projection of the Cathedral, are:

  1. Bro. (Chief) ‘Kayode Shoderu (President)
  2. Bro. Shina Soyebo (Secretary)
  3. Bro. K. O. Olomo (Treasurer)
  4. Bro. S. ‘Geshin Morafa
  5. Bro. (Chief) Dele Kuti
  6. Bro. Ladimeji Oshinowo
  7. Bro. Ladi Sowemimo
  8. Bro. Taiwo Kara
  9. Bro. David Sunmoni
  10. Bro. (Dr.) Ayo Ajayi
  11. Bro. Abayomi Alokolaro
  12. Bro. (Dr.) Jide Awolesi

Presently The League has the following as its Patrons:

  • Grand Patron: Rt. Rev. S. Olu Alaran (Bishop of Ikorodu Diocese)
  • First Patron: Chief B. O. Benson, SAN (Lay President of Conference)
  • Patron: Chief O. I. Alokolaro (Lay President of Ikorodu Diocese)

With the formal inauguration of the League today it thus becomes the 1st Cathedral Society in Ikorodu Diocese.

Long Live The Cathedral League.

Notes on this transcription

  • The programme names the Secretary as Bro. Shina Soyebo and the Treasurer as Bro. K. O. Olomo. The History page of the abandoned 2025 build names Sowemimo as Secretary and Soyebo as Treasurer. The programme is contemporaneous and is treated as authoritative. See spec open input 8.
  • The cover names Bro. C. O. Olomo as Snr. Circuit Steward while the history names Bro. K. O. Olomo as a founding member and Treasurer. Whether these are two men or one is unresolved.
  • The founding ten list gives ‘Bro. (Chief) Kayode Shoderu’; the narrative gives ‘Bro. R. Kayode Shoderu’. Both appear in the original.
  • No tone marks or sub-dots appear anywhere in the printed Yoruba. None have been added.
